Muay Thai beats BJJ for real-world self-defense

BJJ is incredible one on one, on mats, with rules. The street has none of those: concrete, the other guy's friends, sometimes a weapon. The last place you want to be is on the ground.

Muay Thai keeps you on your feet, teaches you to take and give hard shots, and gives you the clinch, elbows and knees for exactly the range most real fights end up in.

BJJ people will say most fights end up on the ground anyway, and that knowing how to get back up is the most important skill there is. They have a point.

Honestly, the best answer is probably both. But you only get to pick one.

If you could only train one for self-defense, which would it be, and why?
